Golßen received its town charter in the year 1276. the town centre is characterised by the town houses and the town hall, built around 1900.

The town hall was constructed after plans by the architect Tieffenbach from 1904 to 1906.
The neo-gothic brick building has three floors and a tower, which was renovated in the years from 1992 to 1995 and defines the silhouette of Golßen till today.
